What is FAFSA? What is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid? What is the Student Aid Report? Where do you find information on the Internet for FAFSA, Free Application for Federal Student Aid?
• Join a FREE Path to Scholarships® college and scholarship e-Course on the www.edudaris.com by clicking on the left navigation bar COURSES.
• Select the FAFSA and Student Aid Report assignment.
• General Information about the federal student financial aid programs, assistance in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and information and technical assistance for FAFSA on the Web can be found at www.fafsa.ed.gov or 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243).
• A student can apply electronically, using FAFSA on the Web. If the student does not have Internet access, a paper FAFSA (in English or Spanish) is available at the local public library, high school, and college or career school, or from the Federal Student Aid Information Center 1-800-433-3243.
• Even if students are applying only for a federal loan, they must submit a FAFSA. To complete the FAFSA, students need copies of Social Security cards, driver's licenses, income tax returns (and their parents' returns), Form(s)W-2, current bank statements, records of untaxed income (such as welfare benefits, Social Security, TANF, etc.) and records of stocks, bonds, and other investments and assets.
More than $74 billion per year of all student aid is provided by the United States Department of Education. The wealth of information is found on its website http://www.studentaid.ed.gov. This website allows the student to find information on federal student aid, access FAFSA on the Web (online version of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid - FAFSA) obtain a PIN (needed to apply electronically), or look up the status of a federal student loan.
If this is the first time a student is filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and the student has not applied for a PIN (Personal Identification Number), it should be done now. The PIN is what allows the student to complete the FAFSA paper-free! The PIN is needed to make online corrections to your FAFSA, including changing the student's name and address, or adding or changing the name of a school to receive the application data. The PIN is also the identifier that allows the student to access personal information in various U.S. Department of Education systems.
A student may not submit a FAFSA application for the new year for processing before January 1, (January 3, for electronic applications) or after the deadline which usually is at the end of June. Check the deadlines for the year the student is applying. It is important to note, however, that states and schools often set earlier deadlines in awarding aid for some programs, including campus-based programs. The student must also keep in mind that eligibility does not continue year to year, and a FAFSA or Renewal FAFSA needs to be filed each year.
Students can access federal student aid publications (in English and Spanish). Funding Education Beyond High School is a guide to federal student aid available online at: http://www.FederalStudentAid.ed.gov or you can call in your request toll-free at 800-394-7084. This publication is available in alternate formats, such as Braille, large print, audiotape, or computer diskette. Contact the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 800-433-3243 or http://www.studentaid.ed.gov/pubs. Other federal student aid publications are also available.
Students can even use the site www.studentaid.ed.gov to help decide on a career and locate schools that offer majors in that field. Then the student can "tour" various schools and apply to them online without leaving the site. With the feature, "MYFSA," a personalized folder can be created to record interests, career and college searches, and any relevant personal information. Students can track their progress in the college planning and application process, pre-populate fields on the FAFSA before applying, and compare financial aid award letters when deciding on a final school.
Edudaris.com has a FREE college and scholarship e-Course, Path to Scholarships® which is a college and scholarship planning guide that empowers students with checklists, planning forms, and organizational tools that assist students to reach their dream of college and the money to pay for the dream.
